Union Street Baths were officially opened to the public on Saturday
afternoon, 22nd July 1876 by Caleb Wright, Esq., JP.
The old baths were closed at short notice at the end of the 1960 season on health
grounds.
CASTLE STREET BATHS
The conversion
of the old Majestic Cinema into the present public baths was completed in 1964, at a cost of approximately £67,000. They were officially opened on the 22nd May, in that year by Councillor G E Hilbert JPCC and
Councillor J Kerfoot JP (Chairmen of the Council).
In
September 2004 the Club was informed that Tyldesley Pool would be closed in 2007 following the opening of a new pool
in Leigh
Sports Village. Following strenuous efforts by Club Officials the Pool will remain open until 2010 when a further review
will be made as to the usage of the facility.
The Club is confident that once again it will overcome any problems it will have to face to ensure that this great
Club carry’s on as the founders set out to do in 1876.
In January 2007 Tyldesley Pool achieved its QUEST accreditation, which is the UK Sport and Leisure Industry quality standard. It defines industry standards in facility operations, staffing, customer service,
service development and review as recommended by the British Quality Foundation.
