Eric Harrison was elected President of Manchester & District S&WPA.  Eric was also re-elected as Hon Water Polo Secretary of M&D.
 
Mavis Bent was re-elected as a Vice President of Manchester & District S&WPA.

Senior Swim Team won the Central Lancs Senior League for the 12th time in 13 years.
 
Intermediate Swim Team won the Central Lancs Intermediate League Division 2 are will be promoted to Division 1 for 2008.
 
Junior Jubilee Swim Team were runners up in the Junior Jubilee 'A' Final.

 

Diane Stafford was elected President of ASA North West Region.

 

Mavis Bent was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award in the ASA North West Region Aquaforce Volunteer Awards.

 

Daniel Hudspith, Adam Gillespie, Ed Morley, Grace Morley and Adam Toone were selected to attend the Manchester Regional Training Centre for water polo.

Chris Gilbertson represented Great Britain at the World University Games in Bangkok.  Click here for further details.

 

Robyn Nicholls represented Great Britain in the LEN European Youth Water Polo Women's Championship in Chania (Greece).  The team finished ninth.  Click here for further details.  Click here for photos.

Chris Gilbertson represented Great Britain in the LEN European Nations Trophy Water Polo Championships.  GB finished in sixth place and secured qualification for the European Championships qualification tournament in January.  Chris scored two goals during the championships.

 

Robyn Nicholls represented Great Britain in a Junior Women's Water Polo Tournament in Thionville, France and attended the GB Junior Women's Olympic Hopes water polo training camp in Praque.

 

Eric Harrison was invited by the ASA to attend the semi finals and finals of the LEN European Nations Trophy Water Polo Championships at Manchester Aquatics Centre on 14th and 15th July in recognition of his “commitment and achievements in water polo”.  Click here for further details.

 

Charlotte Asker, Aaron Atherton, Josephine Costello, Adam Gillespie, Nick Grime, Robert Leyland, Ed Morley, Grace Morley, Megan Price and Bethany Sloan represented Wigan Borough in the Greater Manchester Youth Games water polo tournament.  Eric Harrison was the team manager and Gwyneth Harrison the assistant team manager.  The team took the silver medal after being beaten by a golden goal in extra time in a closely fought opening game against the tournament winners Oldham.  The team won their remaining games convincingly.  Aaron Atherton was the tournament’s top goalscorer.

Aaron Atherton, Josephine Costello and Natasha Grundy were selected to attend the National Water Polo Academy at Millfield in August.

May 07

Robyn Nicholls attended a Great Britain Junior Women's water polo training camp in Millfield and represented the team in the Six Nations Cup in Felgueiras, Portugal.  The GB team took the bronze medal.

 

Michael Cowburn was selected to represent Great Britain Seniors in an international water polo tournament in Saudi Arabia.

 

Adam Gillespie, Sam Oultram, Leah Statham, Adam Toone and Jaeger Turner represented Central Lancashire SWPA in the North West Region Inter-association Gala in Blackpool in May.

Eric Harrison was elected Vice Chairmen (equivalent to President Elect) of Manchester & District S&WPA.  Eric was also re-elected as Hon Water Polo Secretary of M&D.
 
Mavis Bent was elected as a Vice President of Manchester & District S&WPA.

November 06

Michael Cowburn was the highest goalscorer in the National Water Polo League Division 2 with 85 goals in 14 games.  The team finished 4th and were the highest goalscorers with 183 goals.
 
Aaron Atherton, Josephine Costello and Natasha Grundy were selected to attend the Manchester Regional Training Centre for water polo.
 
Rachel Aspinall and Matthew Kearns were elected as the Club Captains.
 
Natalie Cummings broke the Open Age 50 m freestyle record at the Club Championships.

Senior Swim Team won the Central Lancs Senior League for the 11th time in 12 years.
 
Diane Stafford was elected President Elect of ASA North West Region.
 
Steve Aspinall qualified as an ASA Lane Coach.
 
Matthew Kearns passed his ASA Level 1 Teachers Certificate (Swimming).
 
Steve Grundy qualified as an ASA water polo referee (probationary)
 
Steve Aspinall and Paul Costello qualified as ASA timekeepers.

September 06

Chris Gilbertson represented Great Gritain in the Junior Men's European Water Polo Championships in Oradea, Roumania.  In the group stage GB played Serbia, Slovenia, Roumania and Georgia.  The team then beat Poland to take 15th place overall.  (click here for further details then go to page 2)
 
Chris also represented Great Britain Senior Men in the Heliopolis International Tournament against Cegled (Hungary), Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Heliopolis and South Africa at Heliopolis, Cairo, Egypt. (click here for further details)
 
Eleanor Bailey achieved a new club record of 17.57s in the Mini Gala 8 Year Girls 25 m freestyle beating the previous record of 17.9s set by Michelle Giles in 1976.

Aaron Atherton, Emma Burns, Josephine Costello, Nick Grimes, Natasha Grundy, Henry Hooper, William Hooper, Edward Morley, Bethany Sloan and Grace Wood represented Wigan Borough Water Polo Team at the Greater Manchester Youth Games.  Eric Harrison was Team Manager and Gwyneth Harrison was Assistant Team Manager.  The team finished 4th in the event and won the Fair Play Award. 

May 06

Chris Gilbertson represented Great Britain Junior Men in the Junior Men's European Qualifer Water Polo Tournament against Israel, Belarus, Portugal, Poland and Ireland in Limerick Eire.  The team won all their matches and made history by qualifying to the European Junior Men Championships for the first time.  (Click here for further details)

 

Natalie Cummings, Daniel Laithewaite and Kimberley Rumbelow represented Central Lancashire Swimming & Water Polo Association at the ASA North West Region Youth Championships.

Lucy Aspinall was selected to attend the Lancashire County Water Polo & Swiming Asociation swim camp this month.  This selection was made from her performance at the Lancashire County Age Groups.

Girl's club captain Robyn Nichols represented Great Britain in an International Junior Women Water Polo Tournament in Slovakia against Czech Republic, Croatia and Slovakia.

Mavis Bent received "The Big Thank You" Volunteer Award from the Tyldesley, Astley Township Forum in recognition of her voluntary services in the area.

Diane Stafford received a letter of commendation from the Torch Trophy Trust which "recognises outstanding volunteers in the world of sport who have given their time voluntarily to work at grass root level and enable people within their community to participate in sport".  The letter was sent on behalf of the Priness Royal (Princess Anne) and signed by Sir Bobby Charlton.
 
Rechard Jhugroo qualified as an ASA Referee.

After 7 years in the National League Division 1 Tyldesley's Senior Water Polo Team were relegated to Division 2.  (Click here for further details)

Diane Stafford was elected to the Board of the ASA North West Region for a term of 2 years.
 
Tyldesley were winners of the Central Lancashire Intermediate League Division 2 and gained promotion to Division 1.

Robyn Nicholls attended a England Youth training camp in Holland.  During the camp the team played against Holland and Canada.  Also for a third year in a row Robyn attended the National Water Polo Academy at Millfield.

Melissa Banner, Sam Oultram, Katherine Hooper, William Hooper, Rebecca Rumbelow and Bethany Sloan represented Wigan Borough Swim Team at the Greater Manchester Youth Games.  Diane Stafford was Team Manager and the team won the swimming event.

Aaron Atherton, Emma Burns, Robyn Burns, Nicholas Fish, Natasha Grundy, James Hilton, Joshua Houghton and Thomas Southern represented Wigan Borough Water Polo Team at the Greater Manchester Youth Games.  Eric Harrison was Team Manager and James Harrison was Assistant Team Manager.  The team finished 5th in the water polo event.

Chris Gilbertson represented Great Britain Junior Men in an International Tournament (Presidents Cup) against Sweden, Poland, Ireland, Belarus and Lithuania in Lodz Poland.
 
Tyldesley SWPC finished 6th out of 20 clubs at the Central Lancs Championships.
 
Tom Corcoran was selected to attend the Lancashire County Swim Camp at the Manchester Aquatics Centre in June.

March 05

Tyldesley were the winners of the Manchester & District Masters Water Polo Tournament.

Rachel Aspinall, Ben Cooper, Thomas Corcoran, Nikki Higson, Declan Peers, Kimberley Rumbelow and Rebecca Rumbelow were selected to represent Central Lancashire at the Northern Inter-association Age Groups.

Mavis Bent was elected President of Manchester & District Swimming and Water Polo Association.

The Senior Water Polo Team had their most successful season in the National League to date clinching the sixth place in the British Championships by heading the lower section of the Division One table.
 
Michael Cowburn was the National League Division 1 top goal scorer winning the Peter Olsen trophy for the second year in succession.  Michael scored 74 goals, 23 goals more than his nearest rival. (Click here for further details)

The Mayor and Mayoress of Wigan presented the trophies and medals at the Club Championships and attended a buffet reception provided by the club at the Morts Heritage Centre, Astley immediately following the gala.

Senior Swimming Team created history by winning the Central Lancs Senior League for the tenth year in succession.
 
Natalie Cummings represented Division 7 in the English Schools Swimming Association finals at Coventry and finished 6th in the Junior Girls 100 m backstroke.

Khalid Jhugroo won the Boys 17-24 years 2000m at National Age Groups Open Water Championships at Holme Pierrepont, Nottingham. (Click here for further details)
 
Natalie Cummings who only achieved her National Qualifying Time in June and was competing in her first ever ASA National Age Groups finished 9th in the heats of the Girls 12 years 100 m backstroke and went on to take 6th in the final.
 
Khalid Jhugroo competing in the 17/18 years age group of the ASA National Youth Championships (i.e. his final year) was unable to repeat his gold medal performance in last year's 1500 m freestyle. Khalid was 6th fastest in the heats of the 400 m freestyle but was 2 seconds slower in the final and finished in 10th place. Khalid also achieved 12th in the 400 m IM, 13th in the 200 m IM, 14th in the 1500 freestyle and 20th in the 200 m freestyle.
 
David Gendall, James Harrison and Mark Hurst passed their ASA Assistant Teachers Water Pool Certificates.

July 04

Frances Peers was selected as the team captain for the English Catholic Schools Team at the World Catholic Schools competition in Malta.  Frances achieved two golds, one silver, a 4th, a 5th and a 6th position in the competition.

Robyn Nicholls attended the National Water Polo Academy at Millfield for the 2nd year running. Robyn is the only Tyldesley player to attend the Academy twice.

June 04

Heather Fredriksen won the 10K and finished 5th in the 5K Womens British Open Water Championships.  Khalid Jhugroo finished 4th in the Mens 5K British Open Water Championships. (Click here for further details)

Natalie Cummings achieved National Age Group Qualifying Times in the 100 m and 200 m backstroke. These are Natalie's first NQTs.

Wigan Borough represented by Tyldesley SWPC finished 3rd in the Greater Manchester Youth Games Water Polo Tournament. Luke Cheadle was joint second highest goalscorer for the competition with 11 including the winning goal in the final second of the 3rd place play-off against Bury.
May 04

Robyn Nicholls was selected for the Northern Counties team for the ASA Inter-district Water Polo Tournament.

Kimberley Banner was selected as the Girls Captain for the Central Lancs Swim Team at the Northern Counties Inter-association Gala.

Aaron Atherton, Natalie Bennett, Robyn Burns, Luke Cheadle (captain), Liz Deswsnip, Natasha Grundy, Sam Grundy, Charlotte Ranson, Lewis Reece and Charlie Stokes were selected for the Wigan Metro Water Polo Team at the Greater Manchester Youth Games. Eric Harrison and Mark Hurst were selected as team coaches.

Jenny Coughlin was runner up in the Young Disabled Sports Achiever of the Year category at the Greater Manchester Sports Awards.

Frances Peers was selected to represent the English Catholic Schools Swim Squad for the World Catholic School Championships in Malta in July.

Rachel Aspinall, Kimberley Banner, Natalie Cummings, Jake Haslam, Nikki Higson, Daniel Laithwaite, Declan Peers and Rohannah Whittle were selected to the Central Lancashire S&WPA Swim Team for the Inter-association Competition.

Kimberley Rumbelow and Nikki Higson were selected to attend the Greater Manchester Sports Partnership Swim Camp.

Diane Stafford was selected (for the 2nd year running) as the Northern Counties representative on the ASA Technical Swimming Committee.

Mavis Bent was elected as the Manchester & District Swimming & Water Polo Association Vice Chairman. Eric Harrison elected as the Manchester & District Swimming & Water Polo Association Hon. Water Polo Secretary.
